Hello young peasa----We mean wizards.
We'd like to discuss an important topic today, which was unplanned, but we knew that this needed to be discussed after an event earlier today.
We're going to talk about contests. Sportsmanship and honesty in them, that is.
Let's start with sportsmanship. What exactly is sportsmanship?
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines sportsmanship as "conduct (as fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing) becoming to one participating in a sport", the sport in this case being a contest. This means that you should not honor thy opponent, and no matter win or lose, be happy for them.
Sportsmanship- DO's and DONT's:
DO congratulate those who win.
DO respect opponents, just as you respect your team mates.
DO try to play as fair as possible.
DON'T argue when things do not go your way.
DON'T be a baby when you lose.
DON'T gloat if you win.
No one likes a bad sport, so even if you don't feel happy, you should keep your inner feelings to yourself. At least produce a happy image.
Next, let's talk about honesty.
According to Dictionary.com, synonyms of honesty include uprightness, fairness, truthfulness, and so much more.
However, we'll be talking about honesty in contests.
In contests, many people think they have to do whatever it takes to win, no matter what cost. Sadly, some of these people result to cheating.
Here, in the community, people create fake e-mail and social media accounts to enter contests for a better chance at winning. Few times even, multiple of their accounts end up as victors in the contest. This deprives members who actually need the prizes, and it's an even better event when the prizes were paid for with actual money.
For example: Earlier today, our raffle ended, and winners were chosen. Before we could contact someone who had won a bundle, which was paid for with our actual money, a fake account was made on Twitter under the name of that winner, and they asked for us to send their bundle there. Luckily, we spotted that and asked the phony to email us. They claimed their email was giving issues, but later, they gave in and sent an email, this time, claiming to be the mother of the winner of $25 worth of crowns. However, we were able to trace the email to the source, and we discovered the cheater, who is now banned from all our contests.
This upset us greatly, since this was our first contest thrown.
However, nothing can be done about the greed and trickery of men.
Jack DragonShield replied to the above statement saying "Ah yes..there will always be those filled with greed, not concerned about how others would be affected. Its a shameful thing" which exactly reflected what occurs.
Wizards, we hope to take this post into consideration.
